A driver marked “DALI” is not enough to specify a working control system. Check the exact product, supported functions, and controller pairing before the order is confirmed.

What certification tells you

DALI-2 is a product certification program based on the IEC 62386 standards. Use the DALI Alliance product database to check the listed device and its supported parts. A logo in a brochure should lead to a matching product record.

Certification and market access are separate checks

Do not treat DALI-2 as a general customs certificate. A project may require it for controls interoperability, while electrical safety, EMC, and destination-market obligations need their own evidence. Ask which requirement each document satisfies.

Start with the building’s control requirements

Write down the required zones, schedules, occupancy response, daylight control, and reporting. The applicable building rules set the functions to provide; the control designer then chooses an architecture that can deliver them.

Test the functions the project will use

Check the minimum dim level, startup behavior, fade times, grouping, scenes, and fault reporting. Confirm whether color control or emergency-lighting functions are required. Test the proposed driver and controller together, including recovery after a power interruption.

Record the approved configuration

Put the driver model, controller, sensors, firmware versions, and required functions on the order. Agree that substitutions need review. A sample that works with one driver does not establish the behavior of a different production batch.

Keep these records with the order

Keep the product-database references, driver datasheets, sample-test results, addressing plan, and commissioning scope together. Identify who owns the configuration files and who will support the system after handover.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does DALI-2 certification guarantee the whole installation?

It provides evidence for the certified product and functions. The system still needs correct design, compatible devices, installation, and commissioning.

What should I ask a fixture supplier for?

Ask for the exact driver model, the matching certification record, supported functions, and a test with the proposed controls.
