Lighting Council Australia presented 11 awards in Sydney on October 15, recognizing work across products, companies, projects, and people. Its October 20 release says judges reviewed written entries and interviewed shortlisted finalists.

What the awards highlighted

Eagle Lighting's Vertex won Best Commercial/Industrial Product. The company validates each configuration in its NATA-accredited laboratory and reported 72% recycled aluminium.

The award citation also describes an upgradeable design. When you compare configurable fittings, ask for the tested configuration, available service parts, and documented upgrade path.

Novon Lighting reported using 100% renewable electricity and reducing powder-coat waste below 5%. On a 4,000-fitting Sydney project, 90% of each fitting was retained.

The company reported a 63.7% carbon reduction, supported by independently verified ISO 14067 carbon footprints. This gives buyers a specific outcome to examine alongside product-level claims.

At Melbourne's EastLink Tunnel, Lumitex installed about 1,200 lights across four night closures. The release reports two faults and 26% lower energy use over five years, despite brighter lighting.

Turn the examples into procurement checks

These results are project-specific, so they should not be treated as guaranteed performance elsewhere. Ask suppliers for measured data, test conditions, maintenance records, and the assumptions behind carbon calculations.

For a retrofit, compare retained components, replacement access, and energy use against your current baseline. For a configurable product, confirm that the approved sample matches the tested specification.

The awards do not prove every product suits every project. They show why independent testing and clear evidence make lighting specifications easier to assess.
